NAB Show Roundup

​In this panel, a group of experienced public television engineers who attended NAB will share their key takeaways from the exhibit floor. From the continued shift toward cloud and SaaS-based infrastructure to the growing role of AI in both technical and business operations, the conversation will focus on what’s practical, what’s promising, and what’s worth watching. The discussion will also explore innovations in workflows, products and shared services. Moderated by Christian Siebeneck of Public Media Management, the session will feature a variety of panelists including Sean Anker of WFYI, Tim Bischoff of KET, and Bill Hayes, an industry leader and judge for NAB’s “Best of Show” awards.

5G Broadcast: Intro & Update

This session provides a grounded overview of where 5G Broadcast stands today, with a focus on the emerging approach of delivering 5G services within an ATSC 3.0 transmission. Panelists will walk through 5G Broadcast's technical feasibility, development timeline, regulatory considerations, and its real-world implications for stations. Led by the ATSC's Luiz Fausto and Joonyoung Park of Digicap, the discussion will clarify what it actually takes for 5G Broadcast services to reach audiences and provide practical guidance on what station leaders should be doing now to prepare.

Sean Anker

Chief Technology Officer, WFYI Public Media

Sean Anker is the Chief Technology Officer at WFYI Public Media. Sean oversees technology efforts including broadcast engineering, cybersecurity, IT, and digital distribution. With over 20 years of leadership experience, Sean has expertise with engineering, IT, media production, and news teams. Previously, he served as Director of News Technology and Director of Engineering at WFXT in Boston. Before his time in Boston, Sean worked in New Mexico for 15 years, leading stations through analog-to-digital transitions and redesigning statewide broadcast systems. He returned to Indianapolis in mid-2023 to take on the newly created CTO role at WFYI.

Tim Bischoff
Chief Technology Officer, KET

Tim Bischoff is Chief Technology Officer for Kentucky Educational Television, a major producer of local public affairs and cultural programming; educational media for early childhood, K-12, and workforce development; and a leader in public safety communications. He is currently the chair of the PBS Engineering and Technology Advisory Committee (ETAC).
 
Tim leads technology strategy and operations for KET's network/production center in Lexington; production facilities in Louisville and Frankfort; websites and apps for streaming video, professional development, and e-commerce; public safety and tower services; and a 16-transmitter statewide network that reaches 10 media markets and 7.2 million people via broadcast, cable, and streaming.
 
Under his direction, KET built a statewide localized emergency alert system, a new production facility in Louisville, a new master control, and an editing system integrating production facilities in three cities. Tim also led KET in launching ATSC 3.0 stations in Louisville and Cincinnati, repacking all its transmitters, expanding livestreaming and VOD services, and converging broadcast and digital workflow automation. Tim leads a team of 40 people, including engineering, IT, facilities, broadcast operations, transmission systems, and digital product development.
 
At age 15, Tim earned his first paycheck working in television – directing and running cameras for minor league baseball games. In the past 35 years, he’s worked throughout the TV business: engineering and IT, digital and marketing, management and production. He produced and directed the documentary The Everlasting Stream, which broadcast nationwide on PBS primetime. A graduate of Western Kentucky University, with a degree in Broadcasting, Tim has received two regional Emmy Awards. He lives in Lexington with his wife and their three teenagers.

Vinnie Curren

Senior Advisor, PMVG

Vinnie Curren is the principal of Breakthrough Public Media Consulting. Breakthrough helps public media companies navigate today’s dynamic and competitive media world. Breakthrough’s primary client for the past few years has been the Public Media Venture Group. In that role, Curren works with PMVG members to plan their transition to NextGen TV and develop business and service models that leverage the expanded capabilities of the new technology. Prior to forming Breakthrough Public Media Consulting, Curren served as Chief Operating Officer of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a position that he held for nearly a decade. Curren had overall responsibility for managing CPB’s policy, grant-making and station support activities, with the objective of ensuring that all Americans receive robust public media services for free and commercial-free. Prior to being named COO, Curren was CPB’s Senior Vice President for Radio.
 
Curren has been a major market station general manager (WXPN, Philadelphia). He is a member of the Advisory Board of the James H. and Mary B. Quello Center at Michigan State University and has served on the boards of the Development Exchange (now Greater Public) and the Station Resource Group, which he chaired for several years. Curren has received several awards including Public Radio International’s award for innovation and leadership. He holds a BA from SUNY Buffalo (Psychology) and an MS from the University of Pennsylvania (Organizational Dynamics). In his spare time, Curren is an avid motorcycle rider and shade-tree mechanic, and has toured parts of Spain, Mexico, and the U.S. on two wheels.

Luiz Fausto

Vice President of Standards Development, ATSC

ATSC Vice President of Standards Development Luiz Fausto is a seasoned media technology specialist with more than 25 years of experience. Prior to joining ATSC in August 2025, Fausto served as a Technology Regulatory Specialist at Globo TV Network in Brazil, capping a two-decade career there in various engineering roles. He led innovation in digital broadcasting as Chair of the Technical Module of the SBTVD Forum (2020–2024), guiding Brazil’s TV 3.0 (DTV+) Project from global proposals to the development of technical standards. Fausto brings expertise in international collaboration through his close work with ITU-R Study Group 6 and CITEL PCC.II, and as a liaison with global standards bodies. He is active in many other industry organizations and is a frequent speaker at international conferences. Fausto earned his Master’s degree in Applied Computing, Executive MBA in IT, post-baccalaureate in IP Video and Networks, and Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Allison Fine

President, Every.org

Allison Fine is a leading voice on how technology can accelerate social impact. She is President of Every.org, a nonprofit, which is building a more generous world by making philanthropy easy, joyful, and impactful. Under her leadership, the nonprofit giving platform is expanding access to modern philanthropy and helping organizations of all sizes raise more money with less friction. Allison is the author of four influential books on technology and social change, including The Networked Nonprofit, Momentum, and The Smart Nonprofit (with Beth Kanter), which are widely used by nonprofit leaders navigating digital transformation. She is known for translating emerging tech trends into practical, human-centered approaches that help nonprofits grow, adapt, and lead with values.

Marc Hand

CEO and Founder, PMVG

Marc Hand is the CEO and founder of PMVG, a consortium of thirty-two leading public media entities operating more than 140 stations and reaching over 250 million people. Through PMVG, he focuses on building collaborative models, partnerships, and infrastructure to support the long-term sustainability of public media organizations.
​
He is also the CEO of Media Management Company LLC, the ownership group behind Public Media Management (PMM), which provides cloud-based content distribution and master control solutions for public television stations. In addition, Marc co-founded and served as Board Chair for the National Trust for Local News, the largest nonprofit owner of local newspapers in the United States.
​
Previously, Marc was the co-founder and CEO of Public Media Company (PMC), alongside Susan Harmon. Earlier in his career, he worked with the Station Resource Group and co-founded Public Radio Capital, where he and Susan Harmon served as co-CEOs when it became an independent entity in 2001.

Bill Hayes

Consultant

I have worked in broadcast and media since the early 1970’s, first in radio and then in television and now as a consultant to media companies navigating the changing business environment. I have designed and constructed several new stations and rebuilt and retooled many more. During the U.S. transition to digital television, I led the team at Iowa PBS that produced the Iowa DTV Symposium for 10 years, a free to attend conference that educated thousands of engineers and content creators on the implementation and capabilities of the new technology. For that effort I was recognized by the Society of Broadcast Engineers as the Educator of the Year 2007. During my tenure at Iowa PBS I served on the PBS Engineering Technology Advisory Committee (ETAC) for three 6 year terms. I have also served multiple terms as the USA Central Region Governor for the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and I was the president of the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society for two 4-year terms as well as one 4-year term as vice president. I have presented technical papers in North America, Asia, Europe and Australia. I am a Senior Life Member of the IEEE and a Life Fellow of SMPTE .

Joonyoung Park

Senior Vice President and Fellow, DigiCAP, Co., Ltd

Joonyoung Park is Senior Vice President at DigiCAP, where he leads AIOps initiatives for broadcast operations and drives cloud-native transformation of broadcast infrastructure. His current work includes the development and deployment of CDMS (Centralized Deployment Management System) and CCMS (Centralized Certificate Lifecycle Management System) for major U.S. broadcasters, as well as development on harmonizing ATSC 3.0 and 5G Broadcast to enable simultaneous transmission of both frame types on a single RF channel.
​
With over 20 years of experience in broadcast technology, Pay-TV systems, and connected devices, Joonyoung oversees DigiCAP’s product portfolio, including DigiCaster, HomeCaster, LiveCAP, and other NEXTGEN TV solutions. Under his leadership, the home gateway business grew from inception to multi-million dollar business.

Prior to DigiCAP, Joonyoung served as Vice President at NAGRA/Kudelski Group, leading product development for Pay-TV gateways and headend solutions. His earlier career includes leadership roles at LG Electronics and Motorola, where he chaired DLNA’s New Topics Task Force and served on the UPnP Forum Steering Committee.

Joonyoung is a Six Sigma Black Belt and holds a Master’s degree from Pohang University of Science and Technology and a Bachelor’s degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.

Christian Siebeneck

VP, Technology and Innovation, PMM

Christian Siebeneck is Vice President of Technology & Innovation at Public Media Management, with more than 20+ years of experience leading technology transformations. He most recently served as Chief Technology Officer at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) and previously as Chief Technologist at Ideastream Public Media, where he modernized broadcast infrastructure, strengthened cybersecurity, and advanced cloud adoption across organizations. A PBS Enterprise Technology Committee advisor and Kent State University alumnus, Christian works with PMM member stations to drive adoption of cloud and managed master control services and advance PMM's technology roadmap.
